The feedback from the crit was not that good! Which I was a little surprised at, I asked three questions which were
1. Who do you think the target audience is?
2. Can you work out the concept?
3. Would you look at these in the shop?
To these questions most people said either they didn't know or no they wouldn't, which is really saddening but I think I know why.
I think I designed something for me that I liked and didn't concentrate on the concept properly.
I should of made the images look worn and old rather than use very bright colours.
Also I didn't think about the type as much as I could.
I found this brief really difficult and so in the end had to create something that I thought was ascetically pleasing and to be done in time. If I hadn't of struggled so much and had more time I think I would of been able to show the concept properly.

CoP1 Lecture 7: Chronologies 5: Advertising
Fabio started with a good question that he wanted us to all have an opinion on by the end of his lecture.
Is advertising prostitution?
Vivienne Westwood changed the look of women in advertising, she made the women have fun and play about rather than just a mannequin pose.
Barbara Kruger worked with idea of capitalism and how people are very materialistic because of advertising. This kind of work does prompt the question is advertising prostitution.
Another question is, does sex sell? and personally I think it definitely does.
These Tom Ford adverts were very risky and caused controversy. However they are definitely eye catching and I think for the targeted audience will sell because it's in the correct context in GQ magazine.

During the 50's pretty much all advertising was sexist and discriminative towards women.
That was the culture of those days and culture always changes with time.
Nowadays times have changed, Dolce and Gabbana uses men as the exploitation point. Its interesting how times have changed and how women can be presented.

Diesel also tried a campaign like this which I think works, I think the tagline works well for this kind of campaign.
Adverts have changed to not telling or saying anything on them, rather they show things and the viewer then makes their own mind up.
After this lecture I learned that advertising is not prostitution, its up to the viewer to buy into their techniques or not.

Studio Brief 1, Design Process, Crit
The crit was in my favourite format, where you go round and write down what you think. This means you get honest feedback. We also had to write three questions for the viewer to answer which really helped so I can get ideas too.
The crit this week was really helpful because I was so stuck. One of my questions was which concept is the strongest? So with that question it really helped me to concentrate one strong idea and work with it.
The feedback however slightly split it down the middle, a lot of people like either my second or third idea, but they gave suggestions which was helpful.
I got the suggestion of using tree rings to show the numbers of the measurements, I like the idea because it works off my line idea, has an open audience and think it would work well. However I didn't really want to do that because I want to target a specific audience and see if people can understand that its for one type of audience.
I think at this point I still need to think of a real concept I am happy with, I like the idea of using nature and textures which I think I will play with. The tree ring idea has given me other things to look at.

Studio Brief 1,Design Process, Inital Ideas
When researching for this brief, I realised the designs are very appropriate for their target audience. I never noticed before this but they are specially designed for certain genders, or types of people etc.
Using the idea of picking a target audience it helped me think of some ideas.
However, I've really struggled trying to think a good concept for this brief. For the crit, I had a couple of weak ones and maybe one strong idea, the crit really helped me decide what I could do and how I could do it.

I tried to really think about target audience, what the events people go through are, they would put in a photo frame.
New life events, places, people etc
When I thought about target audience I separated it into men and women, and a lot of the time it was all about new things happening in their lives, which are worthy enough to put in a photo frame.
A few of my first ideas I didn't really follow up on like, targeting divorced women. I thought about playing on the idea of 'sling your hook' and 'new man goes here', I didn't think that was a very strong idea and had no real commitment to it.
Three concepts.
Concept 1, Life Events.
I want to show women a life event that all ages can relate to
- Young girl and new friends
- Older lady and new baby
-Older lasy and grankids
I was thinking of layering images to show the progression or using images to show these events
Concept 2, Maps
I want to use maps to show where people have been in their life
-The 8x6 would be the british isles because its the largest size and shows the largest image
- The 7x5 would be zooming into a region and the measurement be made of the road lines
-The 6x4 would be the shop that the frame is being sold in
Concept 3, Using lines
I wanted to show the dimensions of the measurements with lines, this is probably my weakest idea because I don't know where to go with it, especially with the concept.
