Communicaton is a Virus Research

TNT

I really enjoyed this video when it first came out. It is an advert for TNT which obviously do have an audience however I don't think they have a mainstream audience. The idea making something interactive is really appealing, because that makes it more likely to go viral.

Communication is a Virus Research

This is a piece of viral communication that started with no audience through word of mouth and the internet it travelled around the world.

A man called Lonnie Anderson likes to do something special for his wife on valentines day and this year he tried again.

He used the internet to get people all over the globe to write 'i love Anne' somewhere and take a photo and put it online.

The full story with more images is on this website.

This type of viral communication proves how important the internet is when trying to spread a message around. I think we will definitely use the internet in some way to promote our message.

Communication is a Virus Research

Kony 2012.

This was a very an odd advertisement awareness campaign about Joseph Kony who is the leader of a guerrilla warfare group in Uganda. His crimes are disgusting and the campaign was trying to bring Kony into the public eye.

This was one the biggest viral campaigns in history however I personally feel like it quite right, it was quite a hollywood looking advert and the overall style didn't suit the horrific content of what it was telling people.

The design of the campaign suits this brief quite well tho, because of the use of a couple of block colours.

Secret 7, Song Choice

I've chosen to work with the T- Rex single purely because I know the song the best out of the list and I really like T-Rex.

This is the original artwork which does relay the idea of T Rex and the time they were in however, I don't want to do something like that.

Lyrics

Well you're dirty and sweet
Clad in black, don't look back and I love you
You're dirty and sweet, oh yeah
Well you're slim and you're weak
You've got the teeth of the hydra upon you
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl

Get it on, bang a gong, get it on
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on

Well you're built like a car
You've got a hub cap diamond star halo
You're built like a car, oh yeah
Well you're an untamed youth
That's the truth with your cloak full of eagles
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl

Get it on, bang a gong, get it on
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on - oh

Well you're windy and wild
You've got the blues in your shoes and your stockings
You're windy and wild, oh yeah
Well you're built like a car
You've got a hub cap diamond star halo
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl

Get it on, bang a gong, get it on
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on - ooh

Well you're dirty and sweet
Clad in black, don't look back and I love you
You're dirty and sweet, oh yeah
Well you dance when you walk
So let's dance, take a chance, understand me
You're dirty sweet and you're my girl

Get it on, bang a gong, get it on
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on - ow
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on - ow - get it on - mh
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on - a-a-a-a
Get it on, bang a gong, get it on - a-a-a-a ....
Take me, for a meanwhile I'm still thinking

This song has a lot of imagery and a lot to work with, however at the same time there are things I know I don't want to try out, highlighted in red.

T - Rex

T Rex are a glam rock 70's band with funky music. Marc Bolan the lead singer has a very distinct high pitch voice that I love, I don't want to concentrate on the band as people too much because I'd rather communicate T Rex's music rather than the band.

Secret 7, Research

Santana

This amazing illustration is by Michael V Rios who's done a lot of Santana's art work. I think it's really interesting and exciting to look at. It would definitely catch my eye on the shelf and tell me that this music is probably pretty hippy and trippy.

Led Zeppelin

This is a really iconic album art work. The design is obviously based on the Lissitzky design from Russia. The block colour makes the design stand out a lot and grab the attention of the viewer. This design also relates to the music really well, Led Zeppelin is a powerful song and this is a powerful design.

Modern Covers with photos

I wanted to look at modern covers, and the biggest artists I could think of used photos of themselves to sell the albums which I found interesting. With the older ones they used art to depict what their music was about, with modern ones it's more who is singing the song that sells it rather than the music.

I also looked at older covers that used photography which does use the same technique of selling the people rather than the music or style. I couldn't use the idea of showing the artist because it secret.

These two albums caught my eye, I really like the minimalistic colour palettes. It creates quite a calm look and shows the kind of music these two artists produce.

Other vinyls I've looked at..

I wanted to look at older more psychedelic designs to see what they were like in the past and to see if I could create something like that but with a modern current design.

Secret 7, Research

My favourite album or single covers;

I'm a fan of Dallas Green and his sort of band City and Colour, so I've followed his musical career from the first album and it's interesting to see how the album artwork has changed.

The first two albums were his earlier ones, where both were painted by his friends which I think relates to how his career was at the time. The last two are his newer and more popular where actual designers have collaborated with his ideas. However I'm not really a fan of the last one, bottom right, because it's quite trendy. Circles are very popular at the minute and and lack of colour doesn't make it jump out on the shelf.

A Day To Remember, Homesick

When I went through my goth stage I loved this album and it's art. I think it's such an interesting illustration with so much to look at. Also I think it relates well to the idea of homesick, the figure looks lost within all of the vines etc.
Designer - Dan Mumford. This cover is his style, so I think the band were already a fan of his work. http://www.dan-mumford.com/portfolio

Bonobo

Bonobo is a DJ who plays quite chilled relaxed music so I think these pieces really suit his music. I really like the one to the left it represents his music really well because you just seem to relax to it, it's subtle music quite like these covers.
